Exploring Architectural Change

Maxmodel worked with historic-building restoration specialists to explore the building's evolution. Period photographs provided the foundation, including references that had become indistinct with age. 3D modeling was used to reconstruct the architectural forms from this material.

From Research to Physical Models

Ongoing discussions and revisions with specialists produced conjectural reconstructions of the buildings at different stages. The models, displayed in a National Museum of History special exhibition, use detailed 3D printing to reproduce period features. Post-processing and experienced interpretation were important parts of the work.

Three Stages of History

The exhibits trace three main stages of architectural change from the Japanese colonial period through Taiwan's modernization, allowing visitors to compare changes in governance and culture through built form. Plain-finish models interact with exhibition lighting to strengthen the presentation. The original article invites visitors to experience the reconstruction at the museum.
